ESOL Classes

The Association will provide ESOL classes for 120 unemployed Vietnamese and Chinese refugees and asylum seekers on an annual basis

The project’s outcomes are:

Learners will improve their vocabulary and grammar, develop conversation skills and organise their ideas both orally and in writing

Learners’ levels of confidence, self esteem and skills will increase so that they are better able to engage in all spheres of civil society, access their rights and discharge their responsibilities.

Into Training and Work Support Project

The Association will provide advice, training and support to 120 unemployed Vietnamese and Chinese refugees and asylum seekers on an annual basis, to enable them to gain employment. Proposed activities include:

  • Job search methods, filling in application forms and interview and telephone techniques
  • IT sessions in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook Express
  • Specialist advice on setting up small businesses
  • Support and access to the Social Enterprise Project

The project’s outcomes are:

  • A target percentage of trainees will progress to paid employment
  • Trainees will have an increased level of skills, knowledge and confidence related to employment opportunities
  • Trainees will have more confidence and knowledge to access other training courses
  • A target percentage of learners will set up small businesses
It has provided a safe and accessible environment for our students to learn in before they are able to progress to mainstream services.

The project focuses on improving the prospects of the unemployed Vietnamese and Chinese refugees and asylum seekers living in social exclusion.

This project is supported by a wide network of partners in local Vietnamese and Chinese businesses and in the voluntary and statutory sector. Over the last year, 58 people have gone into training and further education and 9 people have gained employment through partnerships with local businesses.
